End of an Era - looking to the future

Posted by Susan Russell on November 10, 2014 at 6:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Well, it has been a month since the incomparable Raisin passed after one wonderful last, successful grouse hunt.   I still can't quite come to grips with it.  She taught me so much about dogs, field trialing, showing and breeding.  I owe her a lot.  I miss her dearly.

On to the future...and Raisin's legacy - in two very different litters being produced this fall.  I am co-breeding litters that will be born elsewhere.  Look at the litter page for...

planned litter, and show results

Posted by Susan Russell on July 17, 2013 at 1:45 PM Comments comments (0)

SO ages since I have updated the site; my apologies for that!  Jack is now Can and Am Ch Russell's Jack of All Trades!  Thanks to  Lindsey Wendel for showing and finishing him in short order at AKC shows.  Meg, Russell's Make Mine Meg, went down to spend some time with Kelli Aitken and won both majors at AKC shows in one weekend, along with two singles.  She will now take a bit of time to grow coat while Kelli shows another female.  My planned litter between Musa...

Posted by Susan Russell on May 12, 2013 at 11:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Moose and Journey should be expecting their litter at the end of June or beginning of July after a fresh chilled semen breeding was performed last Sunday.  My thanks go to Bill and Sandy, as well as Trevor and Carrie for getting both dogs to their respective clinics Ohlney-Sandy Springs in Maryland where the collection took place, and Elizabeth Street Pet Hospital in Okotoks Alberta, where the transcervical AI took place.   Everything went really well, and now we just wait to s...

Jack is away at shows with  Lindsey Wendel and he won a four point major at the Lewiston Idaho shows!  I can hardly wwait for him to finish so that we can get back to field trialing together!

Journey is in heat now, and we are getting organised to breed her to Musashi - detaiils are on the upciming litter page as well as the page for the litter.  She is a litter sister to Jack and to Joey, and Moose is a litter brother to Reba.  Joey and Reba produced the AKC ...

Male pups ready to go, and planned litter

Posted by Susan Russell on March 15, 2013 at 3:40 AM Comments comments (0)

The pups have mostly gone to their new homes and are enjoying their new lives with their forever homes.  I have two males available to competition homes, one that has slightly less drive that would be good for competition/hunting companion/active home, and one that is perfect as a companion or hunting companion for a person who is looking for a steadfast pal to join a comfortable steady home.

I have my last girl getting ready to go to Norway in two weeks, and a pup getting r...

Pups at 9 weeks

Posted by Susan Russell on February 20, 2013 at 10:25 PM Comments comments (0)

I worked the remaining pups on birds today and they were incredible.  I could stand with the lead loose on all of them, some for so long that multiple photos were taken.  They are super fun to train.  Another leaves friday for her new home.  I have males available, one or two for companions and the rest for hunting companion or trial/test homes.

I got word last night that one of Hope's last litter won another field trial and placed.  Mark Bunter's Russell's Odys...

Beautiful weather

We have been able to walk outside a whole bunch yesterday and today.  It was a balmy 7C yesterday and is 4C today, so unseasonable warm.  The pups love it!  It is much easier to tire them ou this way.  I wish my camera was not at the repair shop, the iphone just does not do the fun justice, but as it is better than nothing, I have upoaded some photos from our walks.

Temperament testing tomorrow, vaccinations/microchips on Monday and then the first two go Monda...

Puppy Hike

Posted by Susan Russell on January 29, 2013 at 5:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Pups and Hope and I hiked around the yard (1/3 acre) for awhile in the snow yesterday and today.   It has been really warm and they had a riot.  They now eat nearly six cups of food at each feeding - 24 cups of food PER DAY!  Yikes.   Hope is pretty much teasing them now; she will slow down and let them start to nurse and then she takes off running and playing with them.  It is really cute.   We head for puppy testing on Friday, everyone is waiting...
